Sequenom Targeted SNP Genotyping
Sequenom Genotyping utilises the massARRAY platform developed by Sequenom for identifying a large number of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP). This technology involves an initial PCR amplification where the primer is extended based upon the template sequence which results in allele specific differences in mass. These differences in mass are then detected by a Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization-Time of Flight (MALDI-TOF) mass spectrometer to accurately differentiate between SNP alleles. This technology can identify a large range of SNP mutations within the genome and can be customized to SNPs of interest. This platform is routinely used to identify a large range of mutations in disease related genes. (Credit: George Wilson)
