Protein quantification refers to methods of assessing either the absolute or the relative abundance of total protein or of specific proteins in a sample. These methods are widely used research tools for standardizing protein input into assays, in proteomics studies, in infectious disease studies, and for drug and vaccine development. These methods have clinical diagnostic applications as well, including HIV and tuberculosis testing. Industrial applications include quality control in drug production and allergen detection in food production. (Credit: Brooke Anderson-White)
