Tissue preparation encompasses a broad range of techniques which ultimately usually manipulate tissue samples for histological analysis. These techniques include the following: EDTA, formic acid, and Cal-Ex decalcification; tissue processing; paraffin, resin, and methyl methacrylate (MMA) embedding; formalin, glutaraldehyde, and paraformaldehyde fixation; sectioning; macrodissection; and organ harvesting. Properly prepared tissue may then be studied via light, confocal, and/or electron microscopy. (Credit: Stephani Shusta)
