Pathology microenvironment analysis is the culturing of cells and tissue in the lab under conditions that mimic those in the body for the study of disease. Pathology microenvironment analysis involves the culturing of primary cells, which are cells taken directly from an animal or human patient, instead of laboratory cell lines. In these analyses, the primary cells are cultured under conditions that recreate their natural environment, often in microfluidic devices. These cultures can then be used to study the effects of disease in a simulated native system. Applications for pathology microenvironment analysis include studies of cell-cell communication, cellular response to therapeutics, and drug development efficacy and toxicity studies.
