Orcein stain is a reddish-brown dye extracted from lichens or prepared from the hydrogen peroxide oxidation of amonniacal solution of orcinol. It is used in histological staining of tissues and is frequently employed in microscopical examinations to visualize elastic fibers, chromosomes, Hepatitis B surface antigens and copper-associated proteins.
