Liquid chromatography (LC) is a method for separating components of a mixture. In LC, a liquid mobile phase is run through a column packed with solids, which is the stationary phase. As the sample is introduced into the system via the injection port and travels through the column, its components are separated based upon their size and relative affinity to the stationary and mobile phases. They can be collected by elution time (called fractions). (Credit: Muhammad Atif Khan)
