The Voss laboratory at Tulane University School of Medicine offers a broad array of laboratory services for drug, vaccine, and diagnostics development for infectious disease targets. The expertise we can offer is primarily focused in the development and use of cell-based and animal (mouse, ferret, guinea pig, hamster, rabbit, swine, non-human primate) models of infection with a panel of viral, bacterial, rickettisal infectious agents and biological toxins including BSL-3 and select agents. In the area of animal models, drug and vaccine immunogenicity, safety, and efficacy services are available with unique reagents for ferrets, an area of specialization for the laboratory. Services include clinical scoring, tissue pathology (gross and histo), agent load in tissues (by live culture and/or PCR), cytokine/chemokine responses, humoral immunology, cellular immunology, and innate immunology assays. Host response expression arrays are available for a suite of targets in a species dependent manner. In addition to animal model services, we offer a number of development and analytical services including:
• Confocal microscopy
• Compound screening for antimicrobial efficacy and safety including library screens in 96 and 384 well format
• Cloning and expression of host or pathogen genes
• Mammalian two-hybrid screens for protein-protein interactions
