Venomtech was founded in March 2010 by Steven Trim to help solve one of the problems he had often encountered as a pharmaceutical scientist - finding adequate new drug leads. Steve's passion and drive for drug discovery is intrinsically linked to his desire to advance human healthcare and to his personal experience of the challenges in drug discovery. During his tenure at Pfizer, he worked on several drug discovery programmes where the team struggled to obtain good candidate molecules or adequate tools to rapidly advance its projects.

With the huge array of drug discovery, cosmetic and crop science targets out there, it is not uncommon for our customers to need ligands and tools for targets which have not yet been prosecuted. We offer a custom array design service, using our expertise in combination with databases and published literature to produce T-VDAs for novel targets. Many of these custom arrays perform so well that they later become standard T-VDAs.

This custom service has lead us into novel venom pharmacology such as interactions with epigenetic targets including S100 and bromodomains, but also glutamate transporters and others.

Where possible, we will source new species to add to our collection, often at no additional cost to our customers. We can even include customer’s own preferred species, provided that they can be obtained in a way that is compliant with the Nagoya protocol. Unlock the full potential of our Targeted Venom Discovery Arrays™ (T-VDAs) with this custom hit characterisation and lead optimisation service. The Venomtech team have decades of experience in global pharmaceutical drug discovery, coupled with specialist knowledge of venoms and venomous animals. Using our industry-leading proprietary safe working practices we turn millions of years of evolution into the ultimate drug discovery pipeline. This starts with the T-VDA already optimised to provide biological tools in areas where synthetic chemistry has failed or where a biological is specifically sought.

1.Full identification of active component(s)

  • Characterisation of active fraction(s)
    • LC-MS, MALDI-TOF, MS/MS
  • Purification of single active(s)
    • For libraries not fully pre-fractionated
  • Resupply of actives for dose response testing
    • Milligram quantities purified from original venoms
  • Small scale synthesis of the pure active
    • Up to grams, either synthetic (<150 amino acids) or cloned for larger proteins
  • Large (up to 1kg) synthetic production (<150 amino acids) of single peptides, at GMP grade if needed.

2.Hit-to-lead development
