The COBRE Protein Production Group (PPG) focuses on the cloning, expression and purification of prokaryotic and eukaryotic proteins for COBRE and other investigators in Kansas and the region. The laboratory maintains a variety of equipment to support the production of properly folded proteins in quantities suitable for structural studies (X-ray and NMR), functional studies (catalytic or biological), label-free binding studies (SPR) and/or high throughput (HTP) screening studies.

The Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Laboratory is responsible for maintaining the high field NMR spectrometers, training users, providing spectra on a service basis, and assisting users with design, execution, and interpretation of NMR experiments.

Our capabilities extend from small molecules to isotopically enriched proteins, semisolids, and flow samples. We are part of the Molecular Structures Group (MSG) at KU, a campuswide facility encompassing NMR, MS, X-ray Crystallography, Biochemical Service, and Molecular Graphics and Modeling Laboratories.

Molecular modeling involves computer simulations of the structure and properties of chemical and biomolecular systems. Interactive graphics and visualization tools help users to construct and submit such simulations, and to analyze complex, often multidimensional, results. The MGM Laboratory's goal is to provide access to high- performance computational tools for these purposes. It also works to support university researchers through consultation, technology transfer and training in the application of computational chemistry approaches to their specific problems.
