The Instrumentation Center was formed in 1985 from a grant by the state of Ohio. The primary purpose of the Center is to support research activities of the Faculty of the University of Toledo by providing advice, technical assistance and access to advanced scientific equipment. This includes education and training for graduate students. Important secondary purposes are to support the research activities of other Universities, and to assist local business ventures in solving sophisticated scientific problems.
Currently, the Center provides assistance to UT researchers in the Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Engineering and Pharmacy. The Center specializes in Crystallographic studies and is the home to the Ohio Crystallographic Consortium (OCC).
Staff from local manufacturing industries, and from commercial analytical and testing laboratories, often consult with Center staff for a number of purposes, such as:
We have a Bruker UltrafleXtreme MALDI-TOF/TOF. Please see below for sample types and services.

Samples need to be soluble in aqueous phase buffers or simple organic buffers. For novel materials it is essential that the researchers provide us a experimental protocol. We are usually not able to provide complete coverage of all peptides in digested proteins, so sequencing is based on mass likelihood, not the absolute sequence.
Our facility has a Bruker Apex Duo instrument equipped with a Mo and Cu source. If the crystal permits, absolute structure can be obtained on small molecules. Data collection can be performed down to 100 K. Our services include crystal mounting, diffraction, data analysis and structure solution, as well as generation of CIF.
"Great people, totally professional service; awesome job!"
"I would recommend The Instrumentation Center to anyone requiring crystallography services. Their work is of the highest quality. They communicate quickly and effectively and work to insure that the results are meaningful in the customers context."
