Gene sequencing panels for hereditary disease or cancer research are a great tool for assessing mutations. If you are interrogating from one to 500 genes, and know generally what you are looking for, amplicon-based NGS is superior to exome sequencing in several aspects:

  • improved depth of coverage which can be important in detecting mosaicism or subclonal mutations
  • faster turn-around-time; 48-72 hours compared with weeks
  • less expensive, especially with multiple samples
  • fewer incidental findings to consider
  • easier bioinformatics for mutation analysis

We can help you customize your gene panels whether it is for research or with the ultimate goal of offering clinical test results to your study participants in a CAP/CLIA environment.

RNA-seq gene expression is a fantastic way for quantitative gene expression without the normalization issues of microarrays and without the complicated bioinformatics of transcriptome analysis. If all you need is gene expression (and not splice variant information), this is a perfect technology for your experiment. Using a Lexogen library preparation method followed by Ion Torrent sequencing you can obtain highly precise and sensitive counts of mRNAs at a reasonable cost.

Sample requirements:
500 ng RNA recommended (can accommodate less)
High quality RNA preferred (can accommodate lower quality RNA and RNA extracted from FFPE)
Works with any species

Pricing:
Pricing varies based on numbers of reads required to obtain sensitivity needed for your project (more reads=more sensitive for low expression transcripts) and complexity of tissue (pure or mixed cell population)
Average price per sample $350 (can quote if accommodations are needed for RNA type and quality); willing to do QC runs to determine read depth needed

Deliverables:
Excel file of normalized read counts and barcode summary (for all species that have transcriptome file available e.g. human, mouse)
Raw Fastq or BAM files
Basic QC data

Timeline:
Depends on numbers of samples
Usual time: 1-2 weeks

Our goal is to provide figure-quality sections each time.

Our basic histology service pricing is:

Initial cut and stain slide H&E $6.00 from paraffin block
Additional unstained slide $2.00 each additional slide; $3.00 for coated or + slides
Digital imaging $5.50 per slide (bulk discounts available)

Tissue processing and Embedding from formalin $7.50 per block

Special stains or Immunohistochemistry Most special stains and antibodies are available.
Price varies, can provide quote upon request

Pathology Analysis

We also contract with diagnostic pathologists to evaluate your tissue samples upon request. See our Histopathology Analysis section in this storefront for details.

We can typically work within your financial parameters and offer discounts with volume orders and repeat customers.
We can also do subcontracting for grants.

Pathologist Review of Tumor Models
We are experts in human cancer diagnostics and animal model histology. Since each project is different, we like to have a detailed written or phone discussion to fully understand your needs before preparing your quote.

We have a variety of resources we can apply to tumor model evaluation including:

1) Detailed pathology report
2) Comparative analysis between treatment groups; including digital image analysis
3) Immunohistochemistry
4) mRNA or miRNA in situ hybridization
5) RNA-seq
6) RNA-seq/expression
7) Methods writing, photography, figure legends
8) Digital imaging

We perform our own research (see bibliography link below) and also provide services to investigators from many academic institutions including:

Washington University St. Louis
George Washington University Computational Biology Institute
Broad Institute
Cincinnati Children's Hospital
Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota
Johns Hopkins Medicine
Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Philadelphia
and many more......

Muscular Dystrophy Models
We perform a standardized assessment of disease severity for models of muscular dystrophy comparing customer samples to an mdx control set. Using immunohistochemistry for embryonic myosin heavy chain (regenerating fibers) and IgM (degenerating fibers), central nuclei and macrophage counts are quantified using digital imaging analysis (Hamamatsu software). Raw data with or without subsequent comparisons to control datasets can be provided along with digital images of stained muscle. This is a great analysis for preclinical model comparison of drug efficacy and/or disease progression.

Processing, embedding, H&E and digital scan $25
Immunohistochemistry (with digital scan) $40 per stain (IgM, Embryonic myosin)
Connective tissue stain (with digital scan) $20 (Trichrome)
Pathologist analysis/quantitation/report generation $150
Total per sample (mouse) $275

Turn around time, stains performed and price negotiable depending on # samples.
