Founded in 1980, and based in Philadelphia, PA, NDRI is a 501©3, not-for-profit organization with a mission to advance biomedical research and discovery through the procurement and distribution of human organs, tissues and cells. With funding from the NIH for more than twenty-five consecutive years, NDRI has served over 5,000 scientists supported by the NIH, as well as those in biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, with over 350,000 human tissues. Results from supported studies have appeared in more than 2,700 peer-reviewed publications.
NDRI is not a traditional tissue bank, rather, we focus on prospective tissue recoveries to serve investigator-driven requests which can specify tissue type, preservation and shipping methods, as well as key donor parameters such as age/race/sex, medications and co-morbidities. Data accompanying biospecimens can include a complete medical-social history, where available, and all biospecimens and data provided to investigators are de-identified. NDRI works closely with the nation’s major organ procurement organizations, tissue banks, eye banks and major medical centers, and through this network has the expertise to provide nearly every anatomical structure, organ and tissue, including brain and other CNS specimens. NDRI’s tissue procurement activities are overseen by the IRB at the University of Pennsylvania.
We welcome the opportunity to discuss how NDRI might provide human tissues to support your studies.
