Invitrometrix multi-well cell-based quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) aims to address the shortage of phenotypic screens in drug discovery and development. Our device provides a quantitative phenotypic cell-based investigation method.

Our QCM is a living whole cell biosensor that detects measurable changes in cellular biomechanics: attachment, mass redistribution, viscoelasticity. The system creates real-time, reproducible and robust experiment data and can be used with any adherent cell type.

The QCM can detect phenotypic changes in the cells as they respond to agents. We have detected:

  • cell death (necrosis and apoptosis)
  • changes in cytoskeletal elements (actin and microtubules)
  • mitochondrial membrane hyper-polarization and depolarization
  • changes in cell shape and rearrangement of mass
  • cell-to-cell interaction
  • motility
  • immune cell behaviors (phagocytosis and macrophage activation)

The Invitrometrix system is for live cell research and is designed based on cell culture wells instead of fluidics systems. Our novel patented higher throughput multi-well live-cell QCM device is calibrated to a standard and all wells run concurrently. It is the only method that can provide direct real-time second-to-second information of cells’ mass distribution and viscoelastic properties.

Invitrometrix has developed an array of cell based biosensors to determine efficacy and safety of existing and future drugs by detecting real time changes in living cells due to drugs over multiple days.T he multi-well sensor system is designed to use any adherent live cells in culture, and is well suited to perform phenotypic research for the molecule pre-discovery, target identification and validation phases of drug discovery.

The InVitro-Q system offers:
- Label-free target detection which enables observing normal cell behavior and reduces research costs
- Real-time continuous read out for up to 72 hours which increases visibility into long-term response
- Incubator environment capability making multi-day assay experiments possible (humidity, temperature and CO2)
