The Experimental Therapeutics Program (ETP) is a program established within the unique MNI environment to pursue a mission of bridging basic research in neurobiology and immunology with human studies of neurological and immune-mediated diseases.
The ETP accomplishes this mission through the establishment of core laboratory platforms that integrate fundamental research activities with rigorous studies on human biological samples derived from well-characterized patient populations.
The goal of the program is to expedite the development and formal evaluation of emerging therapies aimed at halting and ultimately reversing disability caused by neurological disease.

State of the art flow cytometry instrument and software.Proof-of-principle flow cytometry studies have validated the ability to measure cytokine regulation in small, biologically distinct human cell subsets within a mixed population of cells. This is proving of particular utility for limiting sample volumes, for example, those obtained from the Canadian pediatric Demyelinating Disease study described below. Use ImageExpress, a rapid, automated cellular image acquisition system. The ImagXpress allows for morphological analysis of the complex cellular structure of neurons and oligodendrocytes. The high throughput capabilities of this integrated hardware and software technology has had an impact on both industry-related and MNI investigator-initiated studies.
A microsphere based multiplexing system that allows for intensive protein and gene expression profiling at a fraction of the labor and materials cost. This system has already been used to develop a profile of potential biomarkers in PD-ADS and other patient cohorts studies by multiple MNI and external investigators
Use the VICTOR™ 3 is an instrument designed for running cost-effective cellular assays and screening technologies. The multilabel, multi-task plate readers can run multiple assay technologies such as time-resolved fluorescence assays on a single platform. The ETP Victor 3 has an added injector capability of rapid delivery of compounds to particular wells, and also has a heated stage to maintain plates at specific temperatures.
