Eicosanoid is an umbrella term used to describe any oxidized derivative of arachidonic acid, a ubiquitous polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) in humans. Arachidonic acid can be oxidized in vivo via both enzymatic and non-enzymatic mechanisms to yield bioactive lipid mediators that are of central importance to human physiology and pathophysiology.

The Eicosanoid Core Laboratory at Vanderbilt University was established in 1988 in order to provide investigators at the university with a central location for analysis of prostaglandins, leukotrienes, and isoprostanes. Each year we analyze >10,000 samples for oxidized lipid mediators. Today the Eicosanoid Core Laboratory serves investigators not only at Vanderbilt but indeed around the world.

Cell lines or animal models: F2-Isoprostanes can be measured in human or animal plasma, urine, tissues, or other fluids. These molecules can also be measured in cells and cell media.

Sample requirements: Samples must be frozen at -80C after collection and not thawed before analysis in our laboratory.

Required plasma volume: 1mL
Required urine volume: 1mL
Required tissue weight: 100mg

Deliverables: An Excel spreadsheet with the F2-Isoprostane values will be delivered to the researcher. Plasma values will be reported in ng/mL. Urine values will be reported in ng/mg Creatinine. Tissue samples will be reported as ng/g tissue.

Remaining sample can be returned at the customer's expense.
