The Cold-Ocean Deep-Sea Research Facility (CDRF) at the Ocean Sciences Centre provides researchers with access to state of the art infrastructure and equipment for the study of aquatic organisms, especially those from the cold waters of the Arctic and North Atlantic oceans.
The CDRF offers researchers unique facilities, including a local seawater line for a continuous flow-through water supply to a AQC3 certified biocontainment facility. The CDRF hosts containment labs, Aquabiolabs multi-tank systems, deep sea research lab, and is newly equipped with histology, microscopy, flow cytometry, deep-sea and disease challenge equipment.
Complete preparation of sample from fixative to H&E stained slide in paraffin. Price may vary depending on condition of sample and number of sections required. Slides return shipped to user at their expense. Digital slide scanning will be available in summer 2016.
External rate (flow only) - technician run
Our florescence activated cell sorter (FACS) is a BD Special Order based on the Aria platform. It has a very versatile set-up including a temperature controlled sort collection chamber (4 - 42°C) that can accommodate Eppendorf tubes to 384 well plates, blue (488nm), red (633nm) and violet (375nm) lasers as well as four nozzle sizes (70, 85, 100 and 130 um).
Process and paraffin embed one tissue sample, external rate
Tissues provided in fixative or ethanol will be processed and embedded in the required orientation in paraffin. Multiple of complex tissues in one cassette may be extra. Please see other items for sectioning and staining.
External rate, technician assisted.
The CDRF has a PHENOM Pro Desktop Scanning Electron Microscope available to its users. This is a very easy to use SEM well suited for rapid analysis of physical and biological specimens. A cryo-stage is available to freeze wet samples. Additional tilt and rotate as well as low charge stages are also available. Integrated EDS for elemental analysis.
We will mount and image basic dry specimens. Remote access is available that will allow control of the SEM for off-site users or images can be prepared by our technicians.
HMDS preparation of samples and mounting: $200 extra per sample.
