Didier Bagnol is a Ph.D. level scientist with training in neuroscience and physiology with 20 year’s R&D expertise in the pharmaceutical industry and academia. From February 2001 to August 2016, Dr Bagnol was a research director at Arena Pharmaceuticals Inc. - a biopharmaceutical company based in US, specialized in small molecule drug discovery for G protein-coupled receptors. Dr Bagnol initiated and led several preclinical drug discovery programs from idea generation to late lead compound identification and participated in the nomination of several clinical candidates which led to IND filing one of which was approved by the FDA in 2012. Didier’s effort in establishing and managing cellular imaging and histology research core laboratories was instrumental for the identification of novel and innovative drug targets. He developed proven abilities to set up in vivo pharmacology and translational animal models for target validation, lead compound identification and optimization, proof of principle and mechanism of action studies. Through these various activities Didier has gained broad expertise across all phases of drug discovery and early development in various therapeutic areas such as neuroscience, endocrinology, metabolic diseases, diabetes, gastroenterology and inflammation. During his tenure at Arena, Didier participation helped to establish the success of numerous partnerships with pharmaceuticals companies like Eli-Lilly, Johnson & Johnson, Boerhinger-Ingelheim. He established and managed critical external collaborations with leading team in academia or carefully selected contract research organizations with relevant expertise. Prior to join Arena, Didier was a tenured Associate Professor at Aix-Marseille University, France and a research fellow at the Molecular and behavioral Neuroscience Institute, University of Michigan, Medical School, Ann Arbor. He authored numerous peer review publications and is an inventor on several patents.
